Rauw Alejandro
Despacito is a 2017 song that was released by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi. It was the single that became the most popular streamed song in the world within 6 months. The single a mix of reggaeton and pop music did not just bring attention to reggaeton but it also drew interest towards Latin music generally. Billboard's Top 100 featured two songs in Spanish generally, and four songs in the year 2016. At the peak of Despacito's popularity in 2017 however 19 predominantly Spanish songs made it to the top 100 as well, and by 2020 there were 41 of them. In the wake of Justin Bieber's dual remix to Despacito (2017) well-known artists began to collaborate with reggaeton performers including Drake along with Bad Bunny on MIA (2018) as well as Madonna together with Maluma in Medellin (2019). In the year 2020, a handful of reggaeton artists were expressing displeasure at its inclination towards mainstream but a new generation of performers, including Rauw Alejandro was determined to ensure that reggaeton was evolving. He incorporated electronic dance styles as well as other styles into his music.
